Actually I should have eaten Kalyana Sappadu in India now. Unfortunately I missed. Here I did not miss anything after hearing your Jan 15th radio program It was very good and nice. After so many days I went to your kitchen and dug your sappadu. I found so many items there. You arranged all the items on the table in which I liked the most the first item. I am proud of you both. Thanks for delivering us all Pongal Virundhu by air while celebrating the first year anniversary of Tamil Amudham . Pongal can't get any more tastier than this. As usual, there were variety of songs (mouth-watering dishes) to suit our tastes with some non-veg entrees. Mariyathai Raman story added additional flavor to the treat. We wish Tamil Amudham all the best for continued service. - Aravind Ramesh, MI

We are truly proud to hear of your ‘thamiz amutham’ accomplishment and service. We have spent many hours now listening to the archived programs. This is so awe inspiring for us. Words will not suffice to describe the emotions. The amount of self motivation, hard work and enthusiasm that should have gone behind this should be enormous. You both have certainly accomplished a ‘magnum opus’ that should give your great satisfaction for years to come.
The diction and delivery, the mix of sounds and the timing are all so professional. I am not surprised by the high quality of music selection and the suitable info sharing behind each piece. This is a great treat to area tamil music lovers. Please do keep up the great work. If there is any way I can be of help please do let me know.
Radio is India was nearly dead, thanks to TV and their serials. The recent liberalization of FM waves is all set to bring radio back to glory (we need something to cool our tempers during the long stops at the busy roads). The radio will need great enthusiastic people like you to bring back quality levels to match the Ceylon radio of yore. Thiruppathy & Maheswari Srinivasan, Bangalore

My dear Raja- What a wonderful gift you have given us! I listened to the interview yesterday. It is just fabulous. I regret not having gotten close to your father with you when I was in Ann Arbor. This interview should open every one's eyes to see your father for what he stood for.
As I listened to this, I could not help thinking how a son can repay the debt to his father for the legacy. You have adequately paid your debt with this interview! The things about this interview (so far that I have heard) that I am really taken are:
Your statement that your father drew inspiration from his mother. What a statement! Did you have interactions with your paternal grandmother? What was she like?
Your own familiarity with father's poems ('songs'). You have let your father's poetry enter your blood and heart and that is obvious. I was taken by this interview so much that I have been doing Google-searches on your father. Found several references. Have not located a picture of his painting of King George V coronation. Do you have it? Is there jpg file you may consider sharing?
This leads to the question: did your father actually sing the songs he wrote? May be the rest of the interview may throw more light. Your explanation of talai nimirndu nillaDA is absolutely wonderful. respectful regards Dr. C.M. Venkatachalam, San Diego

Dear Raja Your speech on Kavignar Ramalingam Pillai was excellent. We have also (at least I) learnt a lot about Kavignar that were not in the print. Congratulations; we were very proud of your presentation on Kavignar. Best wishes Mr. & Mrs. Ranganathan, Maryland.

Hi Uncle, This was a lovely interview. I learn't quite a bit about Namakkal Kavignar from this interview, and feel privileged that I knew him and have met him when I was a child. Latha Desikan, New York

Hi Raja: You have done a marvelous job of narrating your dad's principles, Gandhian discipline, his artistic and writing talents. Also you had mentioned about your grandma who was the very first influential person. I was touched by it.
You were so humble when you mentioned your experience with Nehru. What an experience! Not too many people can say that. Overall you have done an excellent presentation of your father. I don't think many young people know how great your dad was. I am glad that Detroit Tamil Amudham radio recognized your dad's greatness and broadcasted the program by interviewing you.
We are all very proud of your work and I respect your modesty and politeness. Anbudan, Vimala Subbaiah, Los Angeles, CA

Dear Mr. Raja The prog. was very good and nobody will believe by just listening to your voice and clarity in pronounciation that you had been out of India since 1965 or so [I guess]and living in US. Really the prog. was excellent. I was happy that what all I admired in your father's poems you have mentioned and there is no doubt about Kavingner Ramalingam Pillaii 's poems have won the admiration of near and dear and everyone.
Kavigner Subbu Arumugam and his sister have added taste for the prog. with their music. The song KaththiyinRi RaththaminRi popularised your father in the minds of the public. No doubt about it Balanethram has made the prog. a great success by his anchoring the prog. with apt questions. My congratulations for you and the prog. coordinator Mr. Balanethiram. With Regards Alarmelu Rishi, Chennai, India

Normally I do not listen to my own recorded speeches or video. I am glad that I listened to your program. You have done a great job in editing and integrating the interview in a very entertaining manner -- Dr. Ramalingam Raja, Ann Arbor, MI

Dear Balanethiram and Viji: I would like to congratulate you both for your October 16,05 Tamil Amudham program The highlight was the interview you had with Dr.R.Raja on Namakkal Kavignar Sri Ramalingam Pillai. For persons of my age who lived in Tamil Nadu in early fifties, Kavignar meant Ramalingam Pillai. His simple compositions were quite inspiring. They inspired earlier the Freedom Movement. He himself 'fought for the freedom of India", and suffered. He was of course one of the most patriotic proud and at the same time humble Tamilian. He imbibed the best of Vedic and Tamil culture and these aspects were conveyed in simple but chaste Tamil through his poetry. He lived a simple life. My own interest in Tamil poetry and literature(in the fifties) grew partly because of Namakkal Kavignar. That you chose to have a program dedicated to such a great person is highly commendable. It was a high quality program: the right questions were asked gently and excellent replies in beautiful Tamil narration were given by Dr. Raja. A person who did not know of Namakkal Kavignar previously would have, by listening to this program learnt about a great Indian Tamil Poet of impeccable qualities of head and heart. For persons who knew previously about Namakkal Kavignar, Dr. Raja revealed several new aspects of greatness of Namakkal Kavignar. Very often we have seen that sons and daughters of great personalities don't seem to know or appreciate the eternal values of these personalities & don't have the pride of such inheritance. Dr. Raja is a worthy son of the great Kavignar. Not only he seems to be a great authority on his father, but he himself is a poet (as I infer from the "Thanthaiku Anjali", that he sang). It should be a pleasure to all Tamil lovers that a great tradition is being continued in a far off land Please convey my thanks and congratulations to him. Once again I congratulate you both: Try to have such high quality programs in future also. Regards. D.Sundararaman, Maryland.
